Cathy Haedt in the Hospital

Cathy Haedt in the Hospital

Last Monday, Cathy Haedt was admitted to the hospital for what has turned out to be a very low sodium level in her electrolytes. She had been experiencing extreme headaches, nausea and weakness. On Monday morning, she also developed a very strong pain in her left chest area.

Already on her calendar was a cat scan on Monday evening that would check the progress three chemotherapy treatments have made on the small cell lung cancer that returned in her right chest area in September. Yesterday, a cat scan showed no new cancer in that area, but indistinguishable change from September as well.

Today, a brain scan and bone scan were done. This evening, the doctor reported that the brain scan was clear, but that the bone scan showed a small spot of cancer in a rib on her left side. They now know that this is what is causing the pain that she has been struggling with since Monday.

The doctor indicated that their greater concern right now is her electrolyte level, which is not responding as it needs to. Please pray that Cathy’s sodium and any other electrolyte issues would respond well to new measures they are taking to bring this into line.

Tomorrow, Cathy and Fred will see the Oncologist to determine the next steps of treatment for the cancer. Undoubtedly, decisions will need to be made by the doctor and the Haedt’s. Would you pray that God will give all of them great wisdom?

We’ll keep you posted as we know more in the next days. In the mean time, Cathy is at Kaiser Hospital in Woodland Hills if you’d like to make contact. She should be there for at least the next few days.
