Josh In HIGH School?!?!

Josh In HIGH School?!?!

I had an amazing experience this week that I think it’s going to take me a while to figure out. Last night (Wednesday), I attended Josh’s FRESHMAN HIGH SCHOOL ORIENTATION!!

Yep, you read that right, SHOUTING CAPS and all! It’s been one thing (for me) for Josh to be in 8th Grade. I vividly remember going to his Middle School Orientation when he was in Elementary School. But HIGH SCHOOL Orientation?

I kept looking around the room during the presentation (I’ve been around Simi High a lot as a Youth Pastor and a Chaplain) and thinking “How in the world did THIS happen?” I canNOT believe, canNOT get my head (or heart) around the fact that in less than six months, I will have a son in High School!

Nothing you can do about it for me. But thanks for reading/listening. I know I’ll get over it, but MAN…..

When Josh went into Middle School, I had no hint of anxiety. It’s not a fear-filled anxiety, but I do have anxiety over my kid being a High Schooler.

What have I done? Have I prepared him for the rigors? Have I given him the tools? What will I do when his heart breaks over his first girlfriend? Will I really be able to hand him the keys to a car in a couple of years?

Hmmmm…..

Another grandson in High School…. Now I REALLY feel OLD!

(As if I needed any help.) Wish you had just sorta skipped that info.

Oh well, he’s a good kid and has Great Parents so we’ll all survive with the Lord’s Help.

    Hey Paul,
I know what you mean when talking about your son going into High School. My oldest is in 9th grade and in High School. It just seems like yesterday that I was in high school & you had just come to NewHeart to be the Youth Pastor. Boy were does the time fly? Your son will do good. When you have an open communication with them they will talk to you about what is going on. One thing that we have done is something my parents did with us. Is let him know of one or two close adult couples that he feels comfortable talking too that if he ever feels that he can’t talk to you that he can go to them and talk and not have to worry about it comming back to mom & dad and it hurting his parents. Because somethings are just too hard to talk to dad & mom about. This gives them an option to be able to talk without worring what are my parents going to say or are they going to listen to what I have to say. It usually did get back to my parents what I talked about but if my parents talked to me about it, It was in a more listening and concerned How can we handle this situation type of talk. You & Colleen are great parents so he will do just fine. Give him the room to grow & make his mistakes but be there to help him & pick him up when he falls. God Bless you all.
